Mizan Womb Therapy

What Is Mizan Womb Therapy?

Mizan is an Arabic word that means balance. By using traditional reproductive healing techniques, Mizan Therapists seek a whole person somatic approach to restore balance when life feels unbalanced – physically, emotionally, energetically, spiritually.

A Mizan massage focuses on releasing tension in the abdomen, pelvis, lower back, and sacrum, enabling the body to return to it's natural state of balance.

Mizan increases the circulation to reproductive organs, i.e. the uterus, the ovaries and the fallopian tubes, which can help to promote hormonal balance. It can help to reposition a misaligned uterus, which itself helps to increase circulation of blood, lymph, nervous system and Qi. It cleanses the body of any toxic build up from congested circulatory systems, and helps to break down scar tissue. Mizan also aids the digestive system to be more efficient, which then removes and prevents toxic build-up in the body, and supports the immune system. Mizan, as a devotional practice, fosters deep embodied womb connection.

“The uterus is held in place by fascia, muscles and ligaments and if any of them become weak, starved of oxygen or contracted through stress then they are not able to hold the uterus in alignment. When the uterus becomes misaligned, it may exert pressure on one or more of the circulatory flow, which can affect the uterus, the fallopian tubes, the ovaries, the intestines, the vagina and all the connective tissue, muscles, ligaments and bones. The problem can present either at the site of congestion, above it, or below it. Congestion and the blockage of the flow of vital fluids and energy in and out of the pelvis is the primary cause of a long list of symptoms of the misaligned uterus sitting on one or more of the vessels of vital life force that should flow freely through the body.”

The Rose Window

‘Healing’ literally means “to make whole”. In modern day life, we have become so separated from our cyclical and primal nature that healing has become about fixing our supposed brokenness. But what if, Beloved, coming into wholeness is an act of sacred remembrance and artful devotion?

Our wild bodies are encoded with wisdom intelligence. We are wired for pleasure, balance and adaptive regulation.

Deep within the prayer of our bodies is the spiralled path of descent, in, and down, and through, guiding and magnetising us to the rose window of our womb wellness. The womb is a profound portal to the rich velvet remembrance of our original essence as always whole, sacred and wildly alive.

Often it is the sufferings that we encounter in our womb, reproductive, and sexual health, such as painful and dysregulated menstruation, sexual shame and trauma, sexual dysfunction, fertility health, birth, mothering, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, abortion, menopause, that invites us into the initiation of womb healing, and to truly inhabiting the full radiance of our womb power.

Mizan Womb Therapy is a compassionate, skilled, and guided holistic body massage therapy that supports you as you adventure that wild and wondrous journey of coming home to your womb wellness in body, breath, blood, and bone.

Mizan Womb Therapy As Trauma Informed Bodywork

Our pelvis can often be experienced as our ‘centre of gravity’. We experience our sexuality, our cyclical nature, from our pelvis. We experience rights of passage and transitions from deep within the well of our pelvis. It is the space from which life-projects, dreams, authentic leadership, and sacred lineage medicine can live.

But it is also more often a space of deep wounding, a place where we have stored our sexual trauma, shame, anger, lack of self-worth, contracting and constricting over and over again, until patterns of shame and doubt have become a habitual repetition that keeps us stuck and misshapen, separated from our artful Pelvic Presence.

Mizan Womb Therapy is a trauma informed bodywork.

Trauma is not in the event, it exists in the body.
— Peter Levine

Trauma remains in the body when we are unable to discharge, or more aptly, sequence, threat energy and orient to our safety. This residual undischarged energy can affect our entire organism, often in strange and mysterious ways.

Working With The Imprint of Trauma

Mizan Womb Therapy can work with the imprint of stored trauma that is left in the body, and support meaningful ways that you can work with nervous system regulation techniques to somatically release, integrate and restore the temple of your sacred pelvis, and the remembrance of your original essence as always whole, sacred and wildly alive.

Mizan Womb Therapy guides you to cultivate a sense of loving compassionate pelvic presence. You discover how to deeply honour your bowl medicine as a sacred wisdom keeper. Working with touch, focused breathing and visualisations, the song of your soma is supported to bring the body into adaptive nervous system regulation. When the nervous system is regulated in this way, new neural pathways and muscle memories can be created, tissue health can be restored and old memories and trauma can be integrated.

What To Expect?

It is essential in Mizan Womb Therapy that we work with your specific needs and desires, so each session is lovingly and compassionately tailored to your individual needs. So please note that the following 3 steps are to be taken as a guide as to what to expect when you book your Mizan Womb Therapy Package, and what you may expect during treatments.

Step 1:

Intake Form

Firstly, once you book your Mizan Womb Therapy Package, you will receive a Mizan Womb Therapy Intake Form straight to your inbox. The Intake Form is a space for you to share with me your primary concerns, needs and desires. It is helpful for me to understand some of your pelvic history and experience, as well as where you are currently at in your pelvic health, and your desires for working together. I understand that the nature of the Intake Form can address some sensitive areas. Please know that I witness anything that you share with loving compassion and confidentiality. As standard practice, I comply with privacy requirements to protect your personal data and information.

Please only share what you are comfortable with, and we can navigate with care from there. Once I receive your completed Intake Form, you will be notified to schedule your Online Intake Form Review appointment.

Step 2:

Online Intake Form Review Call

Welcome to the Zoom-womb! I find that it is really important to begin to co-create the healing field together, by collaboratively connecting. The Online Intake Form Review Call is a way that we can begin to connect and get practical, discussing your Intake Form, which allows space for us to clarify anything necessary. There is time for your questions, and everything that you forgot when you filled in your Intake Form (don't worry, it happens!) It is also a way that we get to co-regulate and begin to enter into creating a compassionate healing field together. It is a way that we can begin to cultivate presence, and establish safe enough space for compassionate bodywork.

Guided by your body always, we will also discuss scheduling and spacing your Mizan sessions in a way that meets your needs and desires. This may look different for each individual. However, for most people, the sessions will be spaced bi-weekly. We will always discuss and keep in conversation with your body, and what best supports you.

Follow-up treatments may be necessary, and can be booked at a reduced rate following completion of your Mizan Womb Therapy Package.

Step 3:

The Three In-Person Treatments

So this is where we really do co-create your experience. Some people are ready for internal bodywork and the initial intra-vaginal pelvic evaluation during their first treatment.

Others may need more energetic and external bodywork support before the initial internal evaluation. Please know that I expect this, and I honour it, and I will always encourage and support you to cultivate your body literacy in consent and boundaries. Holistic Pelvic Care™ necessitates a level of self-responsibility that works with your yes, your no, your maybe and your embodied nervous system regulation. To me as a practitioner, this is an essential part of the Holistic Pelvic Care™ practice.

Guided by your body consent, we move into either a physical or energetic pelvic evaluation in 3 stages. Again, please note that we may work through all 3 stages if you are comfortable and resourced, and time permits. We are always guided by your body and experience, so this is a guide rather than a rule.

1: If you are a yes to the intra-vaginal evaluation, we work with external connection and internal palpation. The assessment addresses the muscular baseline tone of your pelvic diaphragm/floor (adaptive, hypertonic, hypotonic). We assess your muscular strength through relax and contraction techniques.

2: The next stage is an organ assessment, which is of particular importance for assessing the grade of any cystocele, rectocele, or uterine prolapse. Please note that the intra-vaginal evaluation is not recommended during pregnancy. It is possible and actually can be exceptionally supportive to have the evaluation whilst menstruating.

3: Pelvic Mapping. We work all around the pelvic rim, bringing conscious awareness to any trigger points, tension, hypoxia, numbness, and any signs of muscle/fascial dysfunction. The sacred ground and topography of every vagina is unique, and has beautiful variations in layers, folds, tension, tissue, and engagement.

Step 4:

Second In-Person Treatment

PELVIC MAPPING AND THE FLEUR TECHNIQUE

Building on your initial assessment and pelvic evaluation, and working always with your body literacy, consent and boundaries, we begin to deepen into ways to release, integrate and restore your pelvic bowl medicine. We work in 3 stages:

1: Grounding, resourcing and orienting to your pelvic presence and wisdom.

2: Pelvic Mapping. We explore points of connection and disconnection, presence and absence. We bring conscious communication with direct and receptive fascial connection to any trigger points and pelvic tension patterns. Following the fascia, we navigate any adhesions, mobilising scar tissue to restore physical and energetic alignment and vitality.

3: The Fleur Technique is unique to Holistic Pelvic Care™. It is an integrative pelvic practice that seeks to empower your pelvic sovereignty. This method supports your pelvic dynamics, working with the energetics of your bowl medicine, your ovaries, womb and pelvic organs, guiding you to attune to your sense of presence, observing any absence and any shifts in sensation. We conclude with a bowl blessing, bringing repair, integrating upgraded imprints and honouring the sacred song of your pelvic bowl.

Step 5:

Third In-Person Treatment

THE PELVIC BOWL SINGS

This session engages with the 3-part process of treatment two, whilst also offering a re-evaluation, assessing how the work has supported you to sift-soft, and perhaps where there may still be any imbalances that may need additional support. You are also gifted a personalised post-session guide to support your journey.

Should any follow-up sessions be recommended and desired, you can now book individual follow-up sessions at a reduced rate within 12 months of your initial treatment.

F.A.Q.

Yes! All of my trainings have a deep grounding in trauma informed care, practice and methodology. I also continue to deepen my understanding and widen my trauma education and am constantly expanding my capacity to hold safe enough space in a wide variety of ways. I am also in the process of transitioning from trauma informed to trauma qualified as I continue some extensive trauma trainings to hold my work and offerings, which I will be sharing more about soon!

Absolutely! At the heart of my work is the premise that your sexuality is sacred, and that with loving compassionate presence, you can come into connection, belonging and aliveness with your body, sexuality and pelvis. I believe that is truly every being’s birthright. Ultimately, as your Pelvic Priestess, I am devoted to your embodied-mystery!

Mizan Therapy can be a beautiful support during each trimester of pregnancy, as well as for post-natal healing. I will be deepening in my Mizan training and massage techniques for each trimester, for the comfort of the mother and to help baby into an optimal position for birth. I will also be focusing on post-partum recovery and post-natal healing with traditional post-birth practices such as Mizan sacred wrapping, and a closing of the bones ceremony. If you are currently pregnant, I can recommend a Mizan practitioner for you until I have completed my advanced training.

When we have experienced loss in our pelvic bowl, the imprints of grief, rage, shame and so much more unique to your own personal experience can be present. I personally experienced many losses, and my own journey with Mizan Womb Therapy has been one of honouring, grieving and restoring life to my pelvic bowl. I highly recommend Mizan Womb Therapy if you are healing and integrating your experience of loss. We have truly lost the art of grief-tending in our communities, of being fully witnessed in our stages and experiences of loss. Physical and energetic touch can play a vital role in allowing us to process, co-regulate, and access our thriving.

Great question! Mizan Womb Therapy postpartum is recommended 6-8 weeks after your birth. Postpartum care in the UK is in my opinion woeful and largely non-existent. Mizan Womb Therapy can be a part of the very real difference between postpartum recovery or postpartum pelvic problems, such as organ prolapse.

It is essential that you have spaces in which to honour and integrate your birth story, sifting soft the significant shifts in your body, soothing and mobilising any remedial scar tissue, supporting your pelvic muscles to rest and repair, to ensure your long-term functional strength and integrity in your pelvic muscles and fascial networks.

Mizan Womb Therapy provides a space for somatic postpartum recovery, whatever your pregnancy and birth journey. Mizan Womb Therapy can be a necessary bridge in rebalancing the physical and energetic alignment of the pelvic bowl, supporting postpartum recovery in mind, body and spirit. Mizan Womb Therapy for postpartum recovery can also support you to clear any stagnation and pelvic congestion post birth, ensuring that you have optimal blood flow, supporting lymphatic drainage, supplying your nerves, tissues and bones with the nourishment they deserve to live a tuned in and turned on life!

Unfortunately, and quite unbelievably, trauma is woefully neglected in sexual and pelvic health. It is unlikely that any specialist has actually asked you about your trauma history sensitively. Our medical professionals are expertly trained and have valuable skills, however more often than not, trauma is a very minimal part of medical training. There is also a lack of whole-body, whole-person perspective in Western medicine, and we are paying the price for the overly medicalised interventions of medication and surgery for pelvic health issues, and the outdated reliance on talk therapies as a sole method of trauma healing. This is why trauma informed, somatic and holistic bodywork is truly revolutionary in terms of sexual healing and pelvic health.

Mizan Therapy is highly beneficial for those experiencing menstrual cycle dysregulation. However, Mizan Therapy is not recommended during menstruation, or for the preceding few days. At this time, warm hands and energetic work may be more beneficial, however some people do find that a gentle massage can help to alleviate cramps.

By it's nature, Mizan massage is circulatory, and innovates movement of your blood and your lymphatics. During your bleed, which is a natural time of release, we want to support your body in it's process with tenderness. For this reason, whilst a treatment is not recommended whilst you are bleeding, you may desire self-abdominal massage, which I share with you as a part of your aftercare guide.

Mizan Therapy is not recommended:

  • During menstruation or for the preceding few days
  • After pelvic or abdominal surgery (until your doctor approves bodywork
  • If cancer is present or suspected anywhere in the pelvis
  • If there is active infection anywhere in the pelvis
  • If you have a hiatal hernia, you must have advice from your doctor regarding bodywork
  • If you have diastasis recti, please share this on your Intake Form
  • If you have an IUD, please share this on your Intake Form
  • If you have deeply unresolved trauma, it is highly recommended that you work with me with trauma recovery work prior to intimate bodywork
  • If there is any possibility of pregnancy. Pregnancy itself is not contraindicated for Mizan Therapy, however I must complete my advanced training prior to offering Mizan Massage in pregnancy.

All sessions take place at my therapy home, Suffolk Yoga, in Ipswich, unless otherwise agreed. I have a beautiful, quiet and peaceful private room with access to bathroom facilities. Suffolk Yoga’s ethos is one that my heart and womb can align with. The entire space and the offerings available are truly centred in a whole person, whole body, holistic somatic approach.

However when this is not possible, parking is available during the day at Fore St Swimming Pool. Cut through St. Clements Church Lane to Grimwade Street and cross the road. Initially you will need to purchase the Mizan Womb Therapy Package, which consists of a 1-hour Intake Form Review Call (online), and three 2-hour in-person therapy sessions. Follow-up single sessions can then be purchased at any time within the next 12 months, and I offer a 25% discount on all Follow-up sessions.

Bodywork is, in my experience, very rarely a one-and-done. The Mizan Womb Therapy Package affords us time to establish connection with the bodywork that you are in need of, to be guided by your body and truly centre your own pelvic bowl experiences. The more that I deepen in my journey as a bodyworker, the more I begin to orient to the pace of the nervous system, in slow, artful and intentional ways. The treatments are woven with incremental intelligence and body literacy. For me, this way of listening and attuning in direct and receptive relationship makes it simply impossible and unkind to rush you through intimate bodywork in one stand-alone session.

Your pelvic bowl really is about how you are and who you are in your life. That means that so much can happen in 12 months, in the rhythms, imprints and sensory intelligence of your pelvic bowl, and this will affect how you are in your pelvic wellbeing, alignment, and vibrancy. For this reason, post the 12 month duration, I kindly ask you to purchase a further Mizan Womb Therapy Package to hold the work with care, self-responsibility, and self-love! Your pelvic bowl will thank you!

Absolutely! I understand that payment plans are essential for many people. I am committed to making this work available, accessible and equitable. My prices remain the same whether you can pay in full up-front or not. I will not charge you interest for having a payment plan. I offer a 'pay-in-three' monthly installments plan for all therapy packages, which is available to everyone.

Great question! This really depends on what your needs and desires are. Mizan Womb Therapy benefits a wide variety of pelvic health issues. Some people will benefit from receiving the three treatment sessions over the course of 3 months (one per month). Others may be better suited to taking the sessions bi-weekly. Don't worry beautyheart! I've got you! We will co-create a preliminary plan during your Intake Form Review, and will check in with each other at the end of each session and make any adjustments to the schedule as necessary.

Once you have purchased your initial Mizan Womb Therapy Package, if you need and desire more bodywork, you can purchase Follow-up sessions at a reduced rate of 25% off for 12 months post your initial treatment.

Mizan Womb Therapy alone may be sufficient for you to release, integrate and offer your pelvic bowl the restoration that you need, with love, safety and belonging.

However, for long-term pelvic imbalances, where you may be holding long held trauma and stress patterns, emotional blockages and sexual shame and pain, you may require deepening work to fully unwind, awaken and liberate your pelvic well-being.

My own sexual and pelvic healing journey has absolutely necessitated a multi-layered approach to create the embodied safety that I needed to claim my pelvic bowl as a space of resource, creativity and power.

I have spent the last decade integrating a wide range of sexuality, pelvic and bodywork practices to support your needs and desires. Should you choose, but completely without expectation, you are invited to deepen into a Pelvic Priestess pathway that meets you where you are. This may include coaching, bodywork, sacred sexuality practices, trauma release work. I am continually amazed by the human capacity to heal, and I consider it a privilege to share a thread of that journey with you.

Beautiful! I am so glad to hear that you are ready to answer the call and say yes to your journey. Let’s connect!

You are invited to book your FREE complimentary Pelvic Temple Call with me today, where we can learn a little more about each other, and begin to understand what you truly desire to work on in our sessions with regard to your pelvic and sexual health, addressing your most pressing needs and deepest desires. I will also gently hold space for your questions, and any concerns that you may have. This is a call for you to discover more about working with me. There is no obligation to sign up - I understand that commiting to working with any practitioner is a big decision, and it is imperative that we both feel resonant to work with each other and co-create the transformation, beauty and empowered change that you are desiring.

If we are aligned to working with each other, I will offer you a pathway that feels right for you. Your complimentary Pelvic Temple Call is 60 minutes long, and held over Zoom. You do not need to have your own Zoom account. When you book your Pelvic Temple Call, you will receive a link that invites you into my personal Zoom-womb!

Okay, let's wade through the bullshit that so often happens in these spaces! Quite simply, I believe the way that you identify. I also appreciate that can change and shift in the most beautiful and organic and creative ways possible. I believe in respecting that, which is why I believe you get to language and express yourself as you choose, and I will make every endeavour to support that. I have experienced containers that have injured my experiences and various identities, and I understand that this is a significant issue in sexual and pelvic healing that I intend to challenge on the deepest level.

I am also aware that your various identities, experiences and intersectionalities will not always be a part of my lived experience and vocabulary. I am in the work to dismantle the vestiges of patriarchy, colonialism, sexism, racism, homophobia and ableism. I accept that there will be times that I get things wrong, need to make repair, and ask better questions of myself. I am committed to continue to learn and discover ways to integrate healing the disconnection that systems of oppression have created.

Click the link to view my Diversity and Inclusion Statement.

Personally and professionally, I am continuing to uplevel my education and unpack the embodied politics of race, gender and sexuality in order to become a ‘safer space holder’ for BIPOC, queer, trans, and GE Folk. As a bodyworker, it is never my place to assert that I can hold safe space. Instead, I work on the premise that as a trauma-informed bodyworker, my commitment is to co-creating ‘safer space’ with the openness to learn, repair and grow.

I am also committed to ensuring that pelvic health care begins to language diversity. I am taking action to bring this into my own work and scope of practice. Please know that as a Pelvic-Priestess I am devoted to your embodied-mystery, and I will do my best to meet you in all of your intersectional whole person identities, deeply listening to how you wish to express and be compassionately met.
